TNN | Jan 8, 2019

With various classical events gripping the city of Aurangabad, this evening was entirely dedicated to Odissi dance. The two-day dance and music festival Vayam saw artistes of various genres perform in their best form. While the event saw solo pakhwaaj recital and other classical dance forms getting its part of appreciation, the evening of day one was dedicated to Odissi recitas. Disciples of well-known dancer Parwati Dutta of Mahagami presented group dance on this occasion. A composition by Parwati Dutta, the young girls commenced their performance with Mangalacharan an invocation to Surya based on Suryaashtakam. With an expressive start, these girls performed Thaai, Ashtapadi, Jala Bindu, Saveri Pallavi and ended with Oriya Abhinaya wherein the dance piece depicted the beauty of Krishna.

Not just did the young girls present their skills, a solo Odissi dance by famous dancer Sudha Mukhopadhyay was also in store for the dance lovers. She started her act with Manikya Veena (Mangalacharan) –an invocation in praise of goddess Saraswati. Other elements of her dance were Pallavi and ended with Odissi Abinaya on the music of ‘Prano Sangini re.’ A coming together of expressions, classic moves and grace, the audience was hosted with Odissi dance’s exquisiteness.
