Parwati Dutta, Director and Guru of the internationally renowned Aurangabad based dance-gurukul 'Mahatma Gandhi Mission Sangeet Academy' (MAHAGAMI), was conferred with the 'Bharat Kala Ratna' National Award by Navaneetham Cultural Trust at Thrissur in Kerala at the hands of Minister of Culture KC Joseph yesterday.

According to the official press statement issued by Mahagami, the Award was given for her contribution and artistic services in field of Indian Dance.

Parwati Dutta is widely revered for her artistic contribution as a performer and guru of Kathak and Odissi, and a researcher and arts-administrator. She has traveled in more than 40 countries for performances in prestigious festivals, for lec-dems, workshops and collaborative projects.

She is a member of UNESCO and also an empanelled artist with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Government of India.

She has greatly contributed to the cultural development of Marathwada by introducing Kathak and Odissi dance forms in Aurangabad and teaching more than 1,000 students in the past 18 years, some of them being known as promising performers, teachers and researchers.

Dutta has given performance platforms to more than 75 talented artists of various art forms from Marathwada through concerts at Mahagami and other prestigious organisations and also taken her disciples abroad for many prestigious festivals like 'Festival of India' in Berlin presided by then Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, the release added.
