NRITYA-GATHA by Parwati Dutta is a fun book on Indian Dance Traditions; specially written and designed for children, keeping in mind their imaginative world, cognitive qualities and creative energy. The book gives a vivid picture of every dance through captive visuals, simple narrative text and images that generate a child’s dance experience. In addition to being informative and aesthetically rich, the book also takes the young readers closer to the real experience of dance learning and practice; including spatial focus, imagination, intellectual engagement, commitment to practice and performance, self-discipline, and form-making abilities. While the book mainly deals with the description on each dance, it makes the readers familiar with the creative, expressive and divine aspect of Indian Dance.
India is probably the richest nation with respect to dance-languages and traditions. It is amazing to know how varied and diverse our dance forms are; and how unique and beautiful every performance is, within a chosen dance-style. Indian classical dances have codified gestures and each dance has a special way of moving the limbs and the entire body that creates different patterns in space. . .

Through the book NRITYA-GATHA, i tried to share some basic information about the history, movements and specialty of each dance that can stimulate tender minds to know more about the great Indian Dance Heritage and discover this creative world of movements, expressions and numerous stories retold through Dance.
